Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with slightly-elongated throat and face representing an older child, small brown glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1478 S&H 5. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1900, the doll closely resembles the IV model by that same firm. Apparently Simon and Halbig was commissioned to present a series of this model in original folklore costumes as another example of the rare model in original Swedish costume is also known to exist. Value Points: very rare model with most beautiful and expressive features, lovely bisque and sculpting, and wearing original folklore Dutch costume with wooden shoes and coiffe. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 199.
