Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head, oval face with angular modeling of nose and chin, blue glass inset eyes, incised eyeliner, single stroke brows, closed mouth with firmly-set lips, brunette wig, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, attributed to Damerval and Laffranchy, circa 1915, the firm was involved in the Renaissance of the French Doll movement of that time, and among their models they introduced in 1915 were a series of heads depicting gentlemen. Value Points: rarely-found doll with very stylized expression, wearing antique gentleman's suit of the era, with shirt, tie, stickpin, shoes, and hat. Ex-collection Gladys Hilsdorf.
