Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque head with oval shaped slender face, aquiline nose, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, delicately painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso standing upon tinplate metal wheeled base, wire upper arms, carved wooden hands. The mechanism is hidden under the costume, and when wound, the lady glides forward and around, and alternately lifts her lorgnette and then fans herself. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Vichy (brass plate on base). Comments: Vichy, circa 1870. Value Points: the elegant movements depicting a fine lady making a grand entrance are enhanced by the rare and very beautiful bisque portrait face, fine purple silk costume and cap, hand-painted carved bone fan and gilt ormolu lorgnette.
