Description
4" (10 cm.) -9" dolls, 12" x 17" card. Fifteen dolls representing four different child characters, each constructed with one-piece waist-up torso and head, including two boys and two girls, each with sculpted hair, painted facial features, muslin arms with bisque hands, muslin lower torso with white bisque stockings and painted blue or yellow shoes. Comments: Germany, Hertwig, circa 1910, the set was offered in the 1914 Hertwig 50th Anniversary catalog described as "Charakter-Puppen" and with official trademark registrations 436 727 and 436 728 which described "dressable doll, up to hips consisting of solid clothes", available in ten sizes. The Hertwig factory sample boxes had been preserved in secret archives until their auction from the original Hertwig family in 2000. Value Points: very rare presentation indicating the size and style variations of these dolls.
