Description
19" (48 cm.) Bisque socket head with ebony black complexion, intaglio-sculpted brown side-glancing painted eyes, black upper eyeliner and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth modeled as though open with defined tongue and two lower teeth, black mohair wig, black composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: R X - 5. Comments: Theodore Recknagel, circa 1910, his design for intaglio eyes was registered in 1911 although few dolls credited to his firm were modeled with these expensive-to-create sculpted eyes. Value Points: rare model with flawless complexion, very fine detail of eye sculpting. The doll is featured in the book, The Rose Unfolds, by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 214.
