20" (51 cm.) All-cloth doll with flat-dimensional facial features, three-seamed head lending a very particular shape of crown, oil-painted complexion, facial features and hair, painted blue eyes with all-around eyeliner, single-stroke brows, outlined nose, closed mouth, brown painted curls with scalloped edging around the forehead, stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, oil-painted lower arms and legs, bare feet, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Columbian Doll presented by Emma Adams at the Columbian Exposition of 1892, created in her cottage industry in New York, notably became the first American doll to win the prestigious Gold Medal. Value Points: very artistic and wonderfully-preserved painting in the manner of early American oil paintings. The doll has a blue ribbon award.
