Description
21" (53 cm.) Firmly stuffed dark-brown stockinette head with well defined stitch-shaped facial features, cut-out eye sockets with eye whites, black shoe button eyes, embroidered eyeliner and brows,well-shaped embroidered red lips, black yarn hair cap, original brown cotton sateen body with stitch jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, mitten hands, original costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American, circa 1895, sometimes attributed to Julia Beecher, of Elmira, New York, whose stockinette dolls were made in the Congregational Church sewing circle of Elmira, New York, from 1893 to 1910, under the name Missionary Rag Babies. Value Points: rare-to-find doll in well-preserved original condition.
