22" (56 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead depicting strong-featured black-complexioned man, enamel eyes, sculpted short cropped curled hair, firmly-set lips, tow-wrapped posable body with sculpted wooden lower arms and legs, painted black shoes and white stockings, wearing original costume of Persian prince comprising red silk coat with superb gilt thread embroidery over embroidered ivory silk vest, shirt, gold silk pants, coral necklace with silver jointings, and very elaborate turban enclosing silver crown and ornamented with strands of pearls. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, mid-1700s. Value Points: luxury presepio in grand size, superb sculpting and exceptional costume.
