Delightful Mechanical Display Figure of Jiggs from Bringing Up Father Comic

23" (58 cm.) Firm paper mache head with blue glass eyes and highly-characterized features depicting Jiggs, with wide line mouth having hole at one end from which protrudes a cigar, attached top hat, the head attached in nodding fashion to his plump one-piece torso and legs, wire upper arms, paper mache lower arms and hands. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well, original costume somewhat faded. Comments: circa 1920, the figure depicts Jiggs from the early comic strip (originating 1917) known first as Bringing Up Father, and eventually as Maggie and Jiggs. When wound, the figure continuously nods his head back and forth, as an attention getter. Value Points: wonderful presentation with of the rapscallion fellow, wearing original black felt business suit, vest, gaiters, shoes, spectacles, top hat, and carrying cane.
