Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead with plump face, cobalt blue glass enamel eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line on primly-shaped lips, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French kid-over wooden torso and upper legs with unusual side-hip jointing, wooden arms with swivel jointing at shoulders and elbows, bisque lower legs, nicely costumed. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: E 4 B. (shoulderplate). Comments: French, circa 1860, Barrois with original wooden body, deposed in 1858 by Herbillon who also owned the doll shop Au Calife de Baghdad from which the doll was likely sold. Value Points: rarely found example, the poupee is wearing early mauve silk dress, undergarments, bonnet and carrying matching bone-handled parasol.
