12" (30 cm.) Bisque socket head, painted facial features, small downcast painted blue eyes, black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, closed mouth with center accent line and solemn expression, brunette mohair braids, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Deponiert F.S. & C. 1263/30 Germany. Comments: Franz Schmidt, circa 1910 from the firm's rare art character reform series. Value Points: exceptional detail of sculpting which is especially notable on this petite size, compelling wistful expression, original body and body finish, fine antique costume.

Yet another example of the genius of Franz Schmidt. My choice as one of the most underrated art characters of the time. While we think often of the sculpting on characters, take time to admire the painting on this example. Extraordinary.
