Description
9" (23 cm.) Bisque socket head with flattened solid dome, large brown glass enamel inset eyes, long painted curly lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth, accented lips, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig with long braids, original composition and wooden body jointed at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees with very plump limbs, tiny ankles and feet, small cupped fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 0 (head) E.G. (stamp on torso). Comments: Ernst Grossman, circa 1880, who registered the first jointed composition doll body in Germany, making this a landmark doll both for its body style, and for its facial model which closely resembles the Brevete bebe of Bru. Value Points: the rarity of the model is enhanced by its absolute charm and quality.
