Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque socket head with flattened solid dome, large blue glass spiral-threaded eyes with darker iris rims, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, rich eye shadow, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between shaded and outlined lips, impressed dimple at philtrum, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent, tiny flake at right pierced ear hole. Marks: 11. Comments: Sonneberg, maker unknown, circa 1882, the model closely resembles the "circle dot" bebe model by Leon Casimir Bru, which market this doll was designed to capture. Value Points: very pleasing and artistic painting of features on the early closed mouth doll, original body and body finish, very beautiful antique dress.
