Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head with nearly solid dome, high forehead, angular face, painted blue eyes with black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, pronounced white eye dots, accented nostrils, closed mouth with smiling expression, accented lips, row of sculpted teeth, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 125 4 Germany (head) (Holz-Masse stamp on body). Comments: Adolf Wizlizenus, circa 1910, the firm advertised a series of "charakterpuppen" that year, naming the series "Gretchen" and noting that "all character series [were offered] with painted as well as movable glass eyes"; this actual model was shown in their 1911 advertisements. Value Points: very rare character with wonderful laughing expression, very choice bisque, original body and body finish.
