Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, pale blue glass spiral-threaded eyes with dark iris rims, dark eyeliner, feathered lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with pale accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, shapely wooden poupee body with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees, deluxe swivel jointing at upper arms and upper legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: A La Poupee de Nuremberg, 21 Rue Choiseul, Trousseaux Complets, Reparations, Paris (original paper label). Comments: French, circa 1865, the doll was presented in the luxury doll boutique A La Poupee de Nuremberg, founded by Madame Lavalle-Peronne in 1864, the same time as the founding of her children's journal La Poupee Modele which was designed to promote costumes and accessories offered in her boutique. Each promotion was centered around the theme of her signature doll named "Lily", of which this is a very rare example. Value Points: rare doll to find, especially with original signature paper label, very fine bisque and painting of facial features, and finely sculpted wooden body; antique costume is included.
