Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, very large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, kid poupee body with gusset-jointing at hips and knees, bisque arms to above the elbows, lovely brown and ivory silk costume, undergarments, shoes. Condition: generally excellent, restoration to fingers on both hands. Marks: 6 (head) Au Calife de Baghdad...(original paper label on torso). Comments: Jumeau, circa 1875, presented at the Parisian boutique Au Calife de Baghdad; the doll has especially large eyes indicating its forthcoming evolution into the premiere bebe head of Jumeau. Value Points: very beautiful doll with entrancing eyes, rare boutique label on early body.
