Description
21" (53 cm.) Bisque socket head with long-faced modeling and very full cheeks and chin, large dark blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircles the eyecut, painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, brush stroked and multi-feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, upturned lip corners, separately-modeled pierced ears, blonde lambswool wig over Schmitt pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, flat-cut derriere, antique costume of young Marquis. Condition: generally excellent, some craquelure on torso. Marks: 10 SCH (in shield, on head) SCH (with shield, on derriere and pate). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1882, their rare model closely resembling the EJA bebe by Jumeau. Value Points: among the rarest of the Schmitt bebes, this example has splendid eyes, expressive features, wonderful costume on original body.
