13" (33 cm.) Each has porcelain shoulderhead, he with grey sculpted hair drawn back into periwig tied with black bow, and she with grey hair captured under a Charlotte cap with intricate porcelain lace ruffle and pink bow, each with painted downcast eyes, artistically-detailed features, closed mouth, cloth body, porcelain lower limbs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: MDT '54. Comments: portrait dolls of George and Martha Washington by the charter NIADA member, Martha Thompson, 1954, original superb costumes of antique silk, velvet and lace by couturier Martha Yeske who was a close friend of Thompson. The doll was acquired by its present owner nearly 60 years ago from Mrs. Yeske and has remained in her possession until now.
