Description

25" (64 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead formed with unusual four-part mold, blue glass inset eyes with upward glance, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, lightly-feathered brows, unusual smokey all-around eye shadow, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth modeled as though slightly open with two rows of daintily-painted teeth, accented lips, detailed sculpting of unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, very firm kid poupee body with gusset-jointing at elbows, hips and knees, lovely white pique gown with soutache embroidery, undergarments, woven bonnet with lace lining, leather boots. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, Georges Most, based on his 1860 depose describing the placement of glass eyes in dolls, as well as painted teeth; his poupee heads, manufactured in the porcelain works of Frayon, were uniquely made in a four-part mold, according to research by Danielle and Francois Theimer. Value Points: few examples of this illustrious model are known to exist; this example has outstanding modeling especially of cheeks, mouth and ears, and finest bisque and painting. The doll is shown in The Panorama of Parisienne Dolls by Theimer. Included with the doll is her extensive original trousseau consisting of dresses, gowns, capes, accessories, bonnets, woven slippers, and many other pieces.
