Description
23" (58 cm.) overall. 13"l. wagon. The all-wooden wagon with red wooden spoked wheels is painted original soft creamy yellow and richly decorated with pencil striped red and brown edging, and cream and red letters advertising Alderney Milk Grade "A". A colorful design of a cow's head appears on each side and at the back wall is an amusing design of a young child reaching for a full bottle of milk. Included with wagon is a Schoenhut wooden driver in original denim uniform, wooden case of wooden milk bottles, and a tin milk barrel. Condition: generally excellent, original finish is well-preserved with few rubs on wheels. Comments: Schoenhut, Philadelphia, the dairy wagons were presented by the firm for four years only, 1929-1933, serving as both toys and promotional objects for the actual dairies that they represented; the Abbott Alderney Dairy flourished throughout the Philadelphia area as well as Maryland, New Jersey, and Delaware, known for its very fresh milk. Value Points: the rare American toy has well-preserved original finish, horse, driver and accessories, wonderful decorative designs.
