Description
20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head, oval elongated face, small painted blue/grey outlined eyes, black and red upper eyeliner, one-stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center line on very full downcast lips, impressed character lines around eye corners and mouth, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Deponiert F.S. & Co 1263/50 Germany. Comments: Franz Schmidt, circa 1910, made by Simon and Halbig under commission as an exclusive model by Franz Schmidt. Value Points: extremely rare doll, of which very few examples are known to exist; no records exist of an example of this size ever presented by Theriault's. The mystery of this rare doll and her painted eye sister, model 1262, is rivaled by their outstanding portraiture and quality.
