19" (48 cm.) Solid domed bisque shoulderhead with sculpted upper arms, blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted curly lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, blonde mohair wig, cotton twill upper arms, midriff, and upper legs, bisque lower arms, lower torso and hips, and lower legs with bare feet. Condition: generally excellent, restoration on fingers. Comments: Jules Steiner, his first bebe model, circa 1870, inspired by the Japanese Ichimatsu play doll introduced to Western culture at the mid-19th century International Expositions. Value Points: very rare early doll is enhanced by choicest bisque and painting.
