14" (36 cm.) The firmly-stuffed velvet character with cream velvet face, black oilcloth eyes, velvet nose, embroidered lashes and mouth, black woolen ears, padded wire armature arms, legs and tail, orange glove-enclosed hands with spread fingers, orange felt shoes, yellow felt shorts. Condition: excellent, tip of tail rough. Marks: Miller Manufacturing stamp on foot bottom, (other illegible marks) Aesop's Fables Mike 16 (original pin badge). Comments: Miller Manufacturing for Aesop's Film Fables, late 1920s. Value Points: very rare character in fine original condition including original pin badge.
From 1921-1929, the cartoonist illustrator, Paul Terry, created a series of animated silent films "Aesop's Film Fables" for RKO Pathe. The short cartoons featured amusing spoofs of the original Aesop's Fables. A series of the characters in the films were created in doll form by Miller Manufacturing, late 1920s, and are notable for variations in actual head shape as well as facial details.
