Each is firmly-stuffed brown muslin with pearl-shaped face, red-stitched cap with protruding black ears (hers dainty pointed, his large), painted facial features including side-glancing eyes and variations in painting of mouth, red tipped nose, padded armature arms and legs, attached brown muslin gloved hands and feet, she with long tail, he with padded upturned tail, each wearing original red cotton long trousers with single suspender. Condition: generally excellent except he with small tear on chest and left glove. Marks: (faint Miller stamp on foot of girl). Comments: Miller Manufacturing, Los Angeles, late 1920s, depicting characters from the animated film series of Aesop's Fables. Value Points: delightful pair with variations in expression.
From 1921-1929, the cartoonist illustrator, Paul Terry, created a series of animated silent films "Aesop's Film Fables" for RKO Pathe. The short cartoons featured amusing spoofs of the original Aesop's Fables. A series of the characters in the films were created in doll form by Miller Manufacturing, late 1920s, and are notable for variations in actual head shape as well as facial details.
