The firmly-stuffed velvet character with cream velvet face, velvet nose, embroidered lashes designed to be haughtily down-glancing, embroidered mouth and whiskers, black woolen dainty ears, padded wire armature arms, legs and tail, orange velvet glove-enclosed hands with spread fingers, orange velvet shoes, red polka dot skirt. Condition: excellent, small repair right hand. Marks: Miller Manufacturing stamp on foot bottom, (other illegible marks). Comments: Miller Manufacturing for Aesop's Film Fables, late 1920s, the figure has been identified as Countess the Cat. Value Points: distinctive facial expression with beautifully-preserved embroidered features.
From 1921-1929, the cartoonist illustrator, Paul Terry, created a series of animated silent films "Aesop's Film Fables" for RKO Pathe. The short cartoons featured amusing spoofs of the original Aesop's Fables. A series of the characters in the films were created in doll form by Miller Manufacturing, late 1920s, and are notable for variations in actual head shape as well as facial details.
