Description
16" (41 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead with uplifted face, sculpted brown hair pulled behind her fully-modeled ears and captured in a voluminous white snood tied with a blue ribbon and bow, deeply-modeled eye sockets, enamel eyes, rounded tip nose, closed mouth, impressed cheek crinkles, modeled bosom, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue stockings, black shoes with red bows, wearing early costume highlighted by unique vest, and carrying little woven basket. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, mid-1700s. Value Points: outstanding portraiture enhanced by fine artistry of painting on the rare model.
