Description
36" (91 cm.) including crown and base. 30" doll. All wooden carved doll with oval shaped face and elongated throat, brown sculpted hair with deeply-incised combmarks gathered in a chignon at the back of head, partly sculpted ears, heavily-modeled eyelids over brown enameled eyes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with defined philtrum; the head, torso and hands are carved as one unit, blue painted torso having tunic shape, carved definition of toes, jointing at elbows, expressive uniquely-sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: European, 1700s. Value Points: very fine sculpting of face, hair, fingers and feet, with original embroidered tapestry gown and (detachable) silver metallic crown, on gilt painted wooden base.
