Description
17" (43 cm.) Amber-tinted bisque socket head, brown glass sleep eyes in half moon shape, dark eyeliner, painted dark curly lashes, black brushstroked brows with feathered details, accented nostrils, open mouth with richly-outlined lips, two porcelain upper teeth, tongue, black mohair bobbed wig over plaster pate, amber-tinted composition baby body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: L made in Germany 12 JDK 243. Comments: Kestner, circa 1912, their portrait of Asian baby in original Gump's costume; Gump's, the luxury San Francisco store, commissioned a small number of the dolls which they costumed in their own studios using finest Chinese silks, embroideries and accessories. Value Points: superb original condition of the rare doll with finest bisque and painting, multi-layered original costume including slippers and cap. Included is a wooden straight-back chip-carved chair with flowers and vines, and original brown finish that is decorated with red and green details, 19th century.
