Description
18" (46 cm.) including platform. A carved wooden doll with head turned to the side has ornately-sculpted brown hair with coiled braids and ringlet curls, with painted brown eyes in defined sockets, feathered brows, eyeliner, closed mouth with solemn expression, padded armature body, carved wooden hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: maker unknown, early 1800s, the doll is posed upon original wooden base with painted floral decorations and inscribed "Schwaben", a small village nearby to Munich. Value Points: most artistic quality of expression and carving, with exquisite coiffure, wearing elaborate original costume whose accessories including sewing tools from chatelaine, intricately-woven basket, parasol, and leather satchel dated 1827, on beautifully-painted original platform.
