Description
18" (46 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta head depicting a bald-headed man with sculpted black curls at sides of face and back of head, sculpted ears, ruddy complexion, enamel eyes, closed mouth, tinted beard stubble, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, bare feet, wearing twill jacket with metallic banding, striped shirt and coral pants, and carrying a long wooden pipe. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, mid-1700s. Value Points: outstanding characterization enhanced by fine artistry of painting, notable modeling of hands.
