Description
24" (61 cm.) Carved wooden shoulderhead of plump-faced child with very full cheeks and defined double chin, sculpted brown hair with deeply-defined combmarks in soft curls onto nape of neck, brown enamel eyes, heavily-defined eyelids with brown eyeliner, painted lashes, accented nostrils, closed mouth carved as though open with defined tiny teeth, firmly-wrapped armature torso and upper arms, carved wooden lower arms and legs with defined sculpting of baby fat rolls, separately carved toes and fingers, posed standing with early silk cape trimmed with gilt metallic braid and edging, and holding a silver sunburst medallion in hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Continental, late 1700s. Value Points: rare early carved wooden sculpture with exceptional detail of carving, original body.
