Polychromed terra cotta head depicting a dark-complexioned elderly balding man with unruly black curls at sides and back of head, deeply-incised age wrinkles on forehead, enamel eyes, gaunt cheeks, mouth modeled open, teeth, deeply defined throat, tow-wrapped armature posable body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, bare feet, carved draping leggings, wearing rough shepherd costume of homespun materials, and carrying woven basket and walking stick wrapped as though a crutch. Condition: very good, finish on hands worn, jacket frail. Comments: Neapolitan, mid-1700s. Value Points: unusual complexion shading, exceptional detail of modeling.
