15" (38 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead with rich ebony complexion, sculpted short hair with very tight curls, sculpted ears, inset enamel eyes, open mouth with row of teeth and modeled tongue, well-defined cheek and throat creases, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs with ebony finish, bare feet, wearing original silk and homespun costume and carrying wooden-handled spear, silver-handled sabre, and with silver jug. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, mid-1700s, attributed to Lorenzo Mosca, whose other works are included in the noted Bordoni Collection of Bologna and the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum of Munich.
