German Musical Candy Box with Bisque Doll Ornament

13" (33 cm.) x 9" box. A firm-sided box with ogee-shaping is richly covered with padded ivory silk and hand-painted floral accents, and is surmounted by a silk-covered cornucopia with pleated top edge that frames a bisque doll head that is mounted therein; the doll has brown glass eyes, open mouth, two porcelain teeth, and lively expression. The box lid hinges open for its original use as a luxury candy box, and in a hidden compartment is contained a music box which operates from key wind on the underside. Excellent condition, music box functions, slight fading of silk. Germany, circa 1915.
