Description
20" (51 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with oval-shaped face and elongated strong throat, white sculpted hair drawn from face with V-shaped rolls at forehead framing a comb-accented roll at crown, with four graduated size horizontal rolls and a pageboy curl at nape, painted facial features, pale blue eyes, shaded lips of closed mouth, sculpted jewelry, cloth stitch-jointed body, kid arms. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: nu/ti 42 (script writing at back shoulderplate). Comments: Germany, attributed to Johann Friedrich Muller, circa 1820. Value Points: very rare early doll with unique tinted and sculpted hair, sculpted and painted jewelry including earrings, headband, and elaborate necklace, and wearing antique silk costume gown with gold bead trim, undergarments.

An extraordinary doll with the most amazing sculpted hair and jewelry. As well, to find an early doll of this stature which is attributed to an early German maker is a prize in itself.
