Description
16" (41 cm.) Porcelain shoulderhead with oval slender face, elongated throat, shaded brown/black hair waved behind the sculpted ears into coiled chignon at the nape, painted dark blue eyes, thick black eyeliner, painted all-around lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, kid poupee body with mitten shaped hands and shapely torso. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Circa 1860, the doll is presented as Jenny Lind, the celebrated 1800s performer known as the Swedish Nightingale, and is wearing original costume of green velvet fitted jacket over red woolen flannel dress with silk twill banding and buttons, leather ankle boots, flannel bi-corn hat and is carrying early miniature Jenny Lind sheet music.

Stuart's Take
Not noted in the catalog, but included with the doll, is an early copy of an illustration showing Jenny Lind wearing this costume in nearly exact form. It appears as such that this was a signature look and one that often used for publicity. Making the doll even that much more special and intriguing.
