Description
11" (28 cm.) x 7". Each is a deep glass-fronted shadowbox with patinated gold leaf wooden frame enclosing the figure of man or woman, with cut-out hand-painted paper head, each posed against a painted background. The figures are dimensionally arranged, each with lavish hand-stitched and draped silk costumes of the late 1800s, the woman holding a mandolin and the man with flute held to his lips. Excellent condition. Late 1700s. Illustrated and described in the book The Heart of the Tree by Rosalie Whyel and Jill Gorman, page 31.
