Description
28" (71 cm.) Poured wax shoulderhead with warm golden complexion tones and soft cheek blushing, deeply set blue glass eyes with defined sculpting below the eyes, painted eye lid liner and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded lips, softly curled blonde mohair inserted tendrils, softly stuffed cloth body, wax arms to above the elbows, wax legs to knees, lovely antique silk costume and rose kidskin shoes. Condition: generally excellent, old repairs at left upper leg and right ankle. Comments: English, attributed to Pierotti, circa 1880. Value Points: exceptionally beautiful wax child with very dreamy expression in fine state of preservation.

Fine wax portrait dolls are perhaps the most human and beautifully captured examples of figurative art ever created. For collectors of these dolls this example has one of the most striking and expressive looks of any I have ever see. As if it jumped from a 19th century painting of a child to life.
