Description
14" (36 cm.) x 17". Presented within a wooden shadowbox frame with gold leaf finish is a domestic scene of paper cut gentleman and lady against a background of cloth walls that are decorated with applique and embroidered flowers, along with draperies, a wooden framed faux-clock with porcelain face, chair and table. Each doll is costumed in silk brocades of the era. Condition: fair/good, woman's dress is worn. Comments: Mid-1700s. Value Points: intriguing early costumed paper dolls in original vignette scene. The piece is shown in the book The Heart of the Tree by Rosalie Whyel and Jill Gorman, page 47.
