Description

42" (107 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked brows with delicate feathering, shaded nostrils, accented eye corners, closed mouth with shaded lips, pierced applied ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 20. Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1889, few models of the grand-size 20 Bebe Jumeau were made, most likely for exhibition purposes. Value Points: the very rare doll, presented in her original Jumeau box, is wearing original ivory satin dress with matching brimmed bonnet, signed Jumeau shoes (worn) marked size 20, and, according to oral history recorded at the Museum, was exhibited along with #37 at the 1889 Paris International Exposition.
