Description
22" (56 cm.) l. 18"h. Firm-bodied paper mache poodle in standing pose is liberally covered with curly mohair in classic poodle style, having shaved body and muzzle, and very lush mane and upper torso and tail, brown glass eyes, and with hidden metal pull-string which, when pulled, causes the mouth to hinge open and the poodle to bark (cry?), posed on metal wheels. Excellent condition. French, circa 1885, rare luxury toy, with the insignia of Au Nain Bleu, the prestige Parisian toy store, inside mouth. The dog is featured in the book The Rose Unfolds by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 145.
