French Wooden "Enfant Royale" from Poupees Royale Series

8 1/2" (22 cm.) Carved wooden swivel head with carved hair having rolls at each side of head and formed periwig at back of head with black bow, deeply defined eye sockets with painted blue eyes, thickly painted brows, closed mouth, wooden torso and expandable male genitalia which is unique to this doll, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: known as "le garcon aus yeux bleus", the doll is from the Poupee Royale series discussed by Francois Theimer in his book of that name, page 78, date uncertain, and is wearing original burgundy jacket with metallic edging, striped silk pants and shirt. Value Points: very rare model with unique body, unusual smaller size, and original costume.
