14" (36 cm.) Each has solid domed carved bone head with attached shoulderplate which accommodates its fit to the carved wooden body, the heads with blue glass eyes, painted brows and lashes, strong nose, and closed mouth, sculpted ears, the man with painted pate and the woman with uniquely attached brunette hair wig which accommodates to special cut around the forehead and forms into generous chignon at the back, wooden carved body with paint-over-gesso finish, dowel jointing of limbs, carved bone hands, and is nicely costumed. Condition: generally excellent, body finish worn. Comments: early 1800s. Value Points: rare models with wooden articulated bodies, unusual hair design of woman.
