Description
13" (33 cm.) All-wooden doll, elaborately carved head with deeply defined eye sockets, painted brown eyes and upper brown eyeliner, one-stroke brows, closed mouth, rolled curls of flax wig, crudely carved torso and upper limbs, well-carved lower limbs with expressive large hands, bare feet with defined toes, pegs below feet for insertion in stand, wearing early costume (apron very frail) and bonnet, posed on original wooden base with old paper label ink-inscribed Flemish doll. Condition: very good, original finish. Comments: Flemish, early 1800s. Value Points: exceptional detail of facial carving and expression. The doll is featured in the book The Heart of the Tree by Rosalie Whyel and Jill Gorman, page 107.
