Description
35" (89 cm.) One-piece carved wooden solid domed head and torso, very slender oval face with high domed forehead, slender elongated throat with defined hollow, carved ears, deeply defined carving of facial features including heavily lidded eye sockets with outlined painted blue eyes, one-stroke curvy brows, strong nose bridge and elongated nose, closed mouth, defined chin, with very shapely torso including tiny waist, flared hips, and defined carving of chemise yoke with suggestion of lace, long slender wooden arms and legs with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, expressively carved fingers, painted shoes, wearing simple silk Directoire style gown. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, Obergammergau region, circa 1800. Value Points: an exceptionally fine doll, not only in the rarity and artistry of its work, but also in the fine state of its original preservation.
