Paper mache swivel head on shoulderplate, deeply-sculpted age lines and cheek bones depicting an elderly woman, painted blue eyes, black upper eyeliner, grey brows, strong nose, closed mouth with firmly-set lips, composition and wooden body with jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, early 1900s, believed to be a model from the German secessionist art movements of that era. Value Points: unusual model, exceptional multi-layered traditional costume with thickly padded petticoat, pleated skirt, brocade apron, unusual satin blouse with interwoven green leaves, black velvet vest trimmed with metal Kreuzer coins from 1843,1848,1859,1860,1863, and 1870, and black velvet beaded coiffe.
