Description
21" (53 cm.) All wooden doll with one-piece wooden head and flat-back torso, oval face and elongated throat, narrow black enamel eyes, outlined eyes, dot-painted brows, tiny closed mouth, blush spots on cheeks, brunette human hair, wooden limbs with loose dowel jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, separately carved fingers. Condition: generally excellent, little paint flake on nose, three fingers broken on right hand. Comments: English, mid 1700s. Value Points: lovely presence, wearing original ivory silk gown with embroidered details featuring fitted jacket with peplums, lovely transfer printed linen petticoat, and extravagant multi-tiered hat with green silk detailing. The doll is featured in the book The Heart of the Tree by Rosalie Whyel and Jill Gorman, page 30.
