21" (53 cm.) Solid domed paper mache head with flat-cut neck, bald pate with painted tendrils of curls, blue glass inset eyes, single stroke brows, open mouth, two rows of tiny teeth, on original body of kid over carton torso which contains mechanism, hinged hips, paper mache arms and legs. When key-wound at the side torso, the bebe walks and turns head. Condition: generally excellent, some repair to kid of torso. Comments: Jules Steiner, a premiere version of his Bebe Gigoteur, circa 1865. Value Points: seldom found early model by the celebrated French dollmaker.
