Description
25" (64 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass eyes, painted lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, brushstroked brows with feathering, slightly-parted outlined lips, row of porcelain teeth, pierced ears, dimpled chin, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully jointed body with hidden mechanism in torso which, when wound, causes the doll to "breathe", the eyes to open and close and the bebe to cry mama. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Brevete SGDG Bru Jne R Y 10 M. Comments: Maison Bru, Girard epoch, 1891. The bebe was registered as "Bebe Respirant". Value Points: rare model with rare original body, wearing lovely cotton dress with embroidered and lace detail, leather shoes signed Bru Jne Paris. The doll is shown in the book The Rose Unfolds by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, pages 130-131.
