Description
35" (89 cm.) Including pedestal. Posed upon a wooden pedestal with gilded finish is the all wooden figure of woman with carved shoulderhead posed in down-glancing manner, deeply groove-sculpted brown hair captured loosely at the back, pierced sculpted ears, heavily lidded brown enamel eyes, painted closed mouth with defined teeth, on wooden torso with carved blue painted tunic, bare feet with carved sandals, wooden arms with expressive hands, and a small all wooden carved baby held in her arms, the baby with inset enamel eyes, carved hair, holding golden orb. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Italian, early 1800s, the figure was used in ceremonial parades and festivals. Value Points: exceptional quality of carving especially of facial expression, both figures are wearing original matching brown velvet gowns with rich gold metallic embroidery.
